British planes dropped explosive and incendiary bombs on Dresden during the night of February 13th, 1945. American planes followed. In four raids, at least 3,900 tonnes of bombs were dropped. Breaking civilian morale was intentional then. Authorities point out that Hitler bombed civilians first. Thousands of supporters of PEGIDA (Patriotic Europeans Against the Islamisation of the West) gathered in the German town of Dresden on Sunday for an anti-Islam protest. One of the group's founders, Lutz Bachmann, recently resigned after German media published Facebook messages in which he called refugees "dirty" and posed as Adolf Hitler. Protesters waved German, Russian and Nordic Cross flags and shouted "we are the people," the slogan used by demonstrators against the Berlin Wall in 1989. … READ MORE : http://www.euronews.com/2015/01/25/dresden-holds-first-pegida-protest-since-founder-s-adolf-hitler-photo-blunder What are the top stories today? Bombing of Dresden was an attack on the city of Dresden, the capital of the German state of Saxony, that took place in the final months of the Second World War in the European Theatre. In four raids between 13 and 15 February 1945, 722 heavy bombers of the British Royal Air Force (RAF) and 527 of the (USAAF) dropped more than 3,900 tons of high-explosive bombs and incendiary devices on the city.
